What Is Asclera And How Does It Work?

Last updated 6 years ago

With new medications being created by the minute and medical technology changing by the day, staying on top of all the latest treatments is incredibly difficult. One of the newest vein treatments available to patients is Asclera. So what is Asclera and how does it help vein problems?

  • What is Asclera?
Asclera is a new injectable used to treat varicose veins and spider veins. Asclera is the newest in a long line of sclerotherapy drugs and procedures. Used in Europe for over 40 years, it was recently approved by the FDA for use in America.
  • How Does It Work?
Asclera is a solution that dissolves the interior lining of small varicose and spider veins. This causes the vein to collapse, eliminating blood flow through the varicose or spider vein. The bulging, discomfort, discoloration, and pain associated with spider veins and varicose veins are effectively eliminated.
  • What You Should Know.
The entire Asclera procedure lasts about 30 to 45 minutes and can be done on an outpatient basis. Recovery is minimal. Most patients can return to their normal routines in about a day, although compression garments may be prescribed. Improvements are generally noticed in two weeks, with full results in about 12 weeks.

Asclera is an exciting advancement in vein treatment. With a pedigree that includes 40 years of highly successful use in Europe, doctors in the States now have another effective sclerotherapy treatment in their arsenal.
