Endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) is a method that is used to reduce and eliminate varicose veins. Weakened valves inside of veins can allow blood to flow backwards, causing the veins to bulge out or become varicose. At Advanced Varicose Vein Treatments of Manhattan, we offer VenaCure EVLT as a minimally invasive alternative to more painful varicose vein treatments.
Advantages of VenaCure EVLT
Other treatment options for varicose veins are generally more invasive or less effective. The use of compression stockings, for example, is a treatment option that can prevent existing varicose veins from getting worse and help stop new varicose veins from forming, but cannot eliminate varicose veins. Vein ligation and stripping is a treatment option during which varicose veins are tied off and physically removed from the body. Recovery for this treatment can take up to 4 weeks. VenaCure EVLT is an effective treatment for varicose veins that involves minimal pain and has a short recovery period.
- The VenaCure EVLT Procedure
During VenaCure EVLT, a local anesthetic is applied to the treatment area and a small incision is made in the skin. A thin fiber is inserted through this incision and into the varicose vein. The fiber then emits a laser light which causes the vein to close as the fiber is retracted.
- Results of VenaCure EVLT
After treatment, the closed vein will eventually completely disappear and the body will naturally reroute the blood to healthy veins. During the two to three days following VenaCure EVLT, patients may experience some swelling, soreness, and slight bruising in the treated area which can be managed using compression stockings and over-the-counter pain medication. Patients can begin walking the same day and return to normal activity by the following day.
